Doughnut Vase
This was one of my favorite projects that we did this semester. I'm not particularly sure why that is, but I think its because its something a little different than the usual mug, bowl, or pot. The color is another story though... I had it fired and I glazed it the same day it came out of the kiln. However, I only had time to glaze part of it and I set it down to let it dry so I could finish putting glaze on the part that I had previously been holding onto when i dipped it in the bucket. I ran out of time because I was glazing a few other items that had also just come out of the kiln. It was Friday so it sat on that table over the weekend. I came back on Monday and finished glazing it thinking that it was the same color I had used the first time, because the color of the dried glaze on the vase matched the color in the bucket and I couldn't quite remember which color I had used. Needless to say I was slightly angry when it came out of the kiln again and my OCD kicked in because it was not one uniform color the way I had planned. I guess it turned out to be a pretty cool mistake, but I would've liked it way better if it would've all been the amazing blue color with the drips that I was going for...
Lidded Pot
It seems like every project I do has some sort of stupid story. This one is probably one of the more idiotically ironic ones. I made the pot and the lid and every thing fit together perfectly. I loved the way it looked and I already had plans for what color I wanted to glaze it and the drip that I wanted to make and what I was going to do with it once it was finished etc. So I was trimming the foot on the pot and taking a few rough edges off the lid once it was dry on the table. (I don't like using the wheel when I trim because I feel like I don't have as much control.) I was talking to one of my friends while I was working. I was so thrilled and I just couldn't believe that it had turned out so well. I sarcastically said to her 'Yeah its too perfect. Now watch me do something totally me and ruin it or drop it or something.' A few minutes passed and I moved from the pot to work on the lid a little more. I picked it up off the table and moved it to my lap so I could get a better grip to work on the edge I was smoothing out. Well, my "better grip" idea didn't turn out to be one of my best, because on the way down to my lap I hit the edge of the table with my elbow and it fell out of my hand..... Of course it smashed on the ground.... I swept up the pieces and made a new lid but nothing can be fast or easy, so it was way to big for the pot, even though I measured it with the gauge. It took me longer to fix the second lid than it did to make the entire pot and the first lid combined. It still doesn't fit right. Grrrrrr........
Nature Inspired Item
I was gone the day that we went outside to find our inspiration. So I decided to use a dead forest/dead trees a my inspiration. i used the back end of a needle tool to make branches coming up from the bottom of the inside of the bowl. and then used the same tool to
